Why Get Fit This Fall with Boot Camps

Boot camps are a great way to kick start your fitness, but why? Don’t just join a boot camp program because me, or anyone else, says so. Understand the reasons why they are such an effective way to get fit.

Five Reasons to Get Fit This Fall with Boot Camps

  1. Full Body Workout – Participating in a boot camp workout will get your entire body involved. Boot camps consist of a wide variety of training that is designed to deliver a full body workout.
  2. Intensity – Boot camps will keep you moving. Too often when exercising outside of a group it is easy to take breaks to rest, check a Facebook update, send a tweet, or start talking with friends. Your workout time, is well your workout time. Joining a boot camp is one way to keep the intensity up, the group is moving and working out together. That keeps you going; keeps the intensity up through your entire workout.
  3. Coaching – Not all boot camps are equal, but good boot camps have coaches who care and coaches who know. Care and know – those may seem like odd terms to you, but after being around way too many different types of coaches these two factors make or break a coach.
    • Care – Find a coach that actually cares about you. That means they care about your goals, your limitations, your aspirations, and your current situation. That means they want to see you succeed. I’ve met too many coaches who only cared about themselves; either filling their gym, filling their time, or filling their record with “wins”. Take time to find a coach that cares.
    • Knows – Find a coach that knows proper form and can teach it. Many people assume that anyone who knows how to perform an exercise can teach someone else. That just isn’t true. Perhaps you’ve been like me and spent years in more gyms than anyone should. Perhaps you’ve been like me and watched trainers do their own workouts with excellent form, only to brutally confuse a client on the same movements. (Deadlift is the one exercise I have seen executed well, only to be poorly coached. Ouch, especially for Cube Dwellers. Our lower backs can benefit immensely from the deadlift; but only when it is done properly.)

Boot camps can give you access to excellent coaching. Coaching from someone that cares about you and your progress. Coaching from someone that knows how to help you avoid injuries and perform exercises properly.

  4. Group Commitment – Without group commitment it can be very easy to roll over and hit the snooze button. I’ve done it; you’ve done it. Right? Are you with me here? If the only one watching your workouts is yourself it is much easier to slip. But with a boot camp you have a group that is there for you. They are expecting you to show up. They are expecting you to give them a smile, even if that’s a smile through a veil of sweat mid-workout. By joining a boot camp you benefit from the entire groups commitment to improving their fitness. Help others and let them help you. Knowing the boot camp group is expecting you can be enough motivation to help you avoid the snooze-button and get moving.
  5. Group Support – Support is the sibling of commitment, the younger sibling. Let me explain. At first when you join a boot camp group, you’ve committed to be part of the group. That commitment and the benefits are there from day one. But support takes time. Group support will vary based on the personalities of the people in your boot camp group. Some people will say hello during the first warm-up and be ready to help, encourage, and cheer you on. Others may be a bit more reserved. But what I’ve found is as people work hard together, knowing they are working for similar (if not the same) goals they form a bond. That bond reveals itself in support. Making lifestyle changes in your fitness needs support to make the changes lasting. You boot camp group can grow into your support structure. Learn to know the names, faces, stories, and dreams of those sweating around you. Learn when they need to hear you say, “You got this! Let’s go”. This give and take is where boot camp groups can really shine by delivering group support in your efforts to change.

Where to Find a Boot Camp in Colorado Springs?

There’s snow on the Pikes Peak, changes are coming. Changes in the season, but that could also mean changes in your own life. Joining a boot camp could be part of that transition. But where to find a boot camp in Colorado Springs?

I’ve met two guys, coaches who care and know (remember?). These guys are involved in running boot camp training programs right here in Colorado Springs. They have seen people transform themselves in their groups. I’ve spent time talking with both of these guys to know that they care about the people involved in their groups. They got into this fitness business to help people. But they also know, they know how to perform and coach training movements. Check out their boot camps here in Colorado Springs.

If you give them a visit tell them you heard about them from Troy, the Cube Dweller Fitness guy.

Ascent Fitness Boot Camps in Colorado SpringsAs a cubicle dweller I too have aches and pains. Since high school I’ve had issues with my upper neck. While many different practitioners from different disciplines have attempted to deliver relief, one has helped. That’s Joel Rauser from Cornerstone Physical Therapy. One of the services that Joel provides at his clinic is rehabilitative training and that’s where I met Jerod Langness.

Jerod and I started talking and soon Joel’s staff had to start finding ways to cut us off. We could have talked and tried different exercises all day. His heart and his mind were churning with ideas – remember …. care and know. Jerod fits the bill.

To join Jerod he has options. Through the week he offers boot camp training at different times and locations. Check out which will work best and give him a shot.
